The NJ is good for something

Postby defaultuser » Mon Aug 20, 2012 6:01 pm

After years of dealing with an irrational NJ in family court, I have to admit that its good training.

Today I spent all day trying to unf*ck a situation at work. I'm more or less playing the role of a mediator between the company and a customer. Its astonishing how much people need to be right, how much people want to avoid being seen as making a mistake, etc.

Focusing on getting a favorable outcome in family court is good training for other areas of life. Compared to the X, these people are easy to deal with. Without my life experiences in family court, I doubt I could recognize potential pitfalls and problems that I see.

Thanks NJ.

Haha, no kidding. It isn't specifically as a mediator that I feel my skills/tolerance/perseverance have increased, but certain things definitely feel easier after the battles and turmoil I endured with ex. One of those 'if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger' kinds of things, I think.

Sun Tzu's The Art of War. Great read. I first read it a very long time ago and have gone back and read pieces of it over and over. Re-read it. You get the idea. I found the basic teachings or premises to very helpful in business and life in general. When I dealt with my failing marriage and subsequent divorce though, I found the book to be invaluable.

I was looking at the e-reader on my Android phone and it comes with a few e-books. White Fang, 20k Leagues Under the Sea, A Tale of Two Cities. I think they are all public domain books, so available free somewhere... anyway, one of them is The Art of War. After reading this thread I was going to look into getting it on my Kindle, and the same day I was just randomly looking at the e-reader on my phone, which I never do because I have a Kindle, and there it was! Nice!

The Art of War

If you are going to read that, you should read it's natural companion volume, 'A Book of Five Rings' by Miyamoto Musashi. I re-read it every 5-7 years and get something new out of it each time.
