You say you're confused about it, imagine how confused the children are. And now you're helping to cofuse them. Never lie to your child. Tell them the truth and raise them with the truth. Keeps them from more confused latter. And there is nothing imbarresing about it. If you didn't want the public to know you had step children, you shouldn't have married into it.A child only has one mom and one dad. No matter how good a parent they are, that's all a child gets. God bless the people who step into the roll of Parent, but it don't make them the parent.

I think you misunderstood my points.

I think it is wrong for a parent to encourage child to call someone else dad.

I was sharing my story. My daughter(on her own) would call my husband dad because his name sounds like dad and she couldn't speak well. Plus the other child in our household call him dad(cause he's actually her dad(my SD).
I discouraged her from calling him dad. It wasn't til she was older and could enunciate did she finally get the difference.


What I am saying is when we are in public and if the waitress calls me her mom(about my SD) it is more embarrassing to correct her(the waitress). My SD doesn't care, I don't care, and she's a stranger. So that doesn't matter.

I think I understood fine. This statement pretty much tells me that, even though your child may have or may not have had problems with forming sounds or letters. She could say dad and you knew thats what she was calling him.

What blows my mind is more dads have not spoke up for one of the few things we have going for us in court, a common mistake a female makes, just because they don't want to agree with the poster. That's like cutting your nose off to spite your face! A common trait of the white male!
