Summer Plans ?

Postby Fatheroffour » Tue May 22, 2012 5:39 pm

I know for many of you guys in the thick of it summer plans are not even on the radar. I'd like to say to take the time that you have at some point this summer to make some of those special summertime memories with your kids. Its important.

Its important not to get so wrapped in the battle for the future that you neglect the now. Don't put it off. Recharge your batteries. Treat your kids. Whether its a trip out of state or a flashlight and cheap tent in the woods, take the time and do it.

I was just looking at my calendar today and planning some things this summer. We have a family reunion coming up, should be fun. All my siblings are going to be together, which isn't a common occurence, and almost all my cousins will be there too. My grandpa died a few years ago and we've spent more time getting together since.

Kids only have a few more weeks of school, I get the first 6 weeks of summer without breaks; it's going to be great!

Anyone been to Fiesta World in San Antonio? Looking to take the kids to their first amusement park this summer and we'll be visiting people in central Texas. I've been to Six Flags in Arlington, and like that park, was wondering how Fiesta World compares? Looking for roller coaster action...

Fiesta Texas is great. It's on the Northern suburban fringe of San Antonio, and there are a number of major chain hotels in the area. I recall a couple of resort type properties, including a Marriott property, with killer recreational stuff. Also Sea World is nice, and the river walk in Downtown SA.

I would spend some time doing some history stuff. You won't have the 400 year old stuff you have on the East Coast, but you do have 250 year old Spanish missions, cheap Tex Mex, and some very nice recreational facilities. It's a different type of history than many of our children have been exposed to. Not to mention Remember the Alamo!

Also try underground caves in SA, there are quite the attraction. Alamo is a historic place to visit as well

My summer plans with S8 went up in "smoke" when NJ pulled the crap she did with S8. Instead of using the last amount of vacation time on S8 for the intended plans, now I'm using it along with sick time towards getting S8 back into school. Thankfully my parents are able to help because my friends work (like most people do during the day) and based on the circumstances no day care surrounding why he isn't in school no day care will take him. But I digress and keeping trudging on. On a side note, at least S8 is out of that crazy NJ's house.

We do a nice trip every year.

Went camping in the hill country outside Austin one year. Very hot, but we spent all day in the river, so it wasn't too bad except at night.

Schlitterbahn, San Antonio zoo, the Alamo one year.

Went camping in Colorado.

Toured NYC, Philadelphia, Jersey Shore, D.C.

This year we're going rafting and camping for a week, then we will go to spend time with family for a week.

Still on the list is the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, Disney, a cruise, etc.
