Taxpayers paid divorce attorney fees?

My county commisioner told of a letter from family court requesting $1200 to pay attorneys for a divorcing couple. The judge granted the divorce, one of them got a motorcycle and the other a car. No children were mentioned.
The commisioner did state that they could not pay the attorney fees.
I have never heard of that happening. Is it common practice for taxpayer funds to pay for divorces?

No, not unless there was DV involved or some other mitigating factor.
