Sound quality was good through a thin shirt pocket, but I doubt you'd get much through thicker pants pockets. Also you have to remain still as it picks up movement noises.

I like this. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now. Because the STBX is used to seeing the iPhone in my hand, she doesn’t suspect that it’s recording, especially if it’s just sitting in my breast pocket or in a holder on my belt – that’s one advantage over a regular recorder. I found that the “sound activated” feature doesn’t work so well. It tends to stop and start at the wrong times. So I just leave the recorder on the whole time and it works just fine.

I used the Sansa 4GB recorder as well. It worked great because it is pretty small and there were times I had it just sitting on the table recording and she had no idea. She abused the crap out of me and I got some great recordings. Also constantly swearing in front of the children was very beneficial when it came to sharing with the GAL. And with 4GB you can record throughout the day and it will not run out of memory. I found that beneficial in that her outbursts were then proven to not be instigated by me at all.

I'm looking to get a digital recorder to keep on when the wife and I are alone.
I found a USB flash drive sized recorder thats 4GB:

I wear an ID badge to work and attaching a flash drive to the lanyard would look totally normal, so I'm thinking of getting this and just turning it and wearing it on the badge whenever I see her.

Thoughts or advice? Anyone else ever use these things?

Other option is the front pants pocket recorder...let me know if you think that is better.

Outside of "Night Recorder" Apple has intentionally separated/locked down a lot of functions out on the iPhone making it pretty difficult for app-makers to get creative in this area.

I have a Canon Vixia HF R21 camera. It's at a mid-range in terms of price - and the quality is superb. The only thing is you have to convert the file from the .mts that it makes into a different file. This is not a huge hassle but it means you may need to spend an additional $30+ on the software to convert it.
