I've been trying to plan a trip to take the kids to see their Grandparents in California since February. NJ is being...well...a NJ, and trying to throw a wrench in it. I had to file a Possession and Access Modification on Monday. Trying to do what I can. Fingers crossed.

It's a great time to plan it out, before school lets out and life happens.

For me and S13, it's...

Concert and biking in the mountains.
    Camping in the Cascades
Visiting extended family in the midwest (Dad's 80th)
    Mountain biking
    Archery lessons / club

...some with the GF and her kids, but mostly just us two.

Enjoy the summer, dads.

Summer plans with parent(s) is what the kids will remember. In addition to the plans I would suggest getting the kids involved in actually making the plans.

My, now D20, started doing a good share of the family summer vacation plans at about the time she turned 16. She still loves the planning process. D20? Not many more years left before she does her own vacation without dad :(

Instead of using the last amount of vacation time on S8 for the intended plans, now I'm using it along with sick time towards getting S8 back into school. Thankfully my parents are able to help because my friends work (like most people do during the day) and based on the circumstances no day care surrounding why he isn't in school no day care will take him. But I digress and keeping trudging on. On a side note, at least S8 is out of that crazy NJ's house.

For sure. Most of my trips have been weekends - fits my broke budget, long weekend work schedule and plenty-to-do-nearby-so-I-don't-need-to-go-far situation. This summer I have the goal to go to the beach every weekend I am with the kids. No cost except gas to get there, kids love it, good to go.

I've got my week long vacation booked for the first time since I was a kid. I've taken a weeks vacation before for the birth of a kid or the week between Christmas and New Years but never taking a week off and going somewhere. Kids and I are headed to the beach and I can't wait.

Already made a Colorado trip with D9; this weekend taking S7 to the renaissance faire to watch me joust, hang out with his stepmom, and meet new aunties!

FoF, I realize that. Just s-cks when you've got things planned out for a week and poof they are gone. Worst part is, with trying to get him evaluated and back in school, next week is the last week of school and the return needs to be approved by the school board beforehand. I don't think they (school board) will move as fast to get him back as they did when they kicked him out (called an emergency school board meeting based on NJ's phone call all in one day and found out the next day). Well at least I've got more ammunition against NJ with it in writing from the school on the reason why he isn't allowed in school...too many absences in the school year based on his behavior with NJ.
