Can the kids transfer schools?

Postby james34 » Mon May 21, 2012 12:28 pm

Hey everyone! How is everyone doing?
I had a question regarding transferring.

With me being the custodial parent can i transfer my 2 teenage boys to a different high school without the court opposing it? Even if the non-custodial parent opposes it?

Thanks!

Is there anything in the parenting agreement relating to education?

Are they moving to the district you live in or out?
What is the reason for the school change?

Thanks

Yes you can.

It's up to her to argue to the courts why you shouldn't be allowed.

Ohhh. Is there any mandatory steps I must take before moving them?

We haven't gotten to the parenting agreement yet, we go to pretrial in a couple days.

It is not the same district, but the same county.
they got a scholarship to go to a better school for the fall.

The devil is in the details but last time my kids changed schools, I just went to the new county's educational building and signed them up. Nothing special required.

If your decree requires notification of your ex then you should do that, which gives her time to either file a response with the courts or just stomp her foot and be mad. If she files with the court, you'll have to go through the process. If she just stomps her foot and stays mad, so be it.

LOL you are a man of wisdom fatheroffour! LOL.

I wanted to move closer to the school, my lease is up soon, so I have to make a decision. It just would be easier for the commute, My eldest can drive, but my younger one has another year. Would the whole moving closer to the school be a issue? It is only 15-20minutes away, and again we are still in the same county, she lives in the same county as well.
