Suspected NJ Drug Use

Postby bachelortake2 » Mon Mar 05, 2012 7:28 pm

S14 has a monthly prescription for methylphenidate (Concerta) for ADD. Recently, NJ sent me receipts for reimbursement as we split medical costs 50/50 as outlined in our divorce decree. S14 never brings pills with him when he stays with me. I asked him if he still takes his Concerta. He told me that he don't and he hasn't for a long time. But according to my records obtained from the pharmacy, his prescription has been filled every month for at least the past year. So if he don't take the pills, where are they going? Given the fact that NJ behavior is very erratic leads me to believe she may be taking them. I have talked to his doctor and school counselor about it. Now what do I do?

She could either be taking them or selling them.

What is that stuff supposed to do to you? Does it make you high?

It's speed.

Talk to the doctor about your concerns. That should put a stop to it if that's your goal.

It is in the same family as cocaine. So yeah, it would make someone without ADD/ADHD high.

My primary goal is for my S14 to take his meds. If he doesn't need them anymore, then to stop the prescription.

My secondary goal is to get NJ help if she is abusing the drugs and get my kids out of that kind of environment.

If your son is not taking them, she is criminally defrauding you out of your portion of the money, criminally defrauding the insurance company out of their portion of the money, criminally taking a controlled substance or criminally selling a controlled substance and possibly endangering the welfare of your child by not giving him medication that he needs to maintain his mental health.
You need to prove that your son is not taking his medication if you want to do anything with this.
Take him to the doctor and have them run a drug screen on his urine which would prove he's not taking it.
From there if you wanted to report it to cps and or the state's attorney's office and or the insurance company. Keep in mind that this will end any chance of you ever having a normal relationship with her, but if you're like most of us that's not possible anyways.

Take S14 to Doc for a checkup. Ask Doc to review and recommend S14 either continue/discontinue use of the meds. If discontinuing by Doc's order then he can kill the script so it is no longer refilled. A little confused that's on a long term refill with out any sort of periodic follow-ups. Every 6 months or something. But if kiddo isn't using it then the Doc can check into it and take him off it if no longer needed. That should correct it.

Concerta is a controlled substance and the scripts cannot be "called in" to the pharmacy. A physical piece of paper prescription must be presented in order to obtain the medication. Most doctors will not give out more than 3 months at a time without seeing the patient. My son is on the same medication and his Dr. will only do 2 months at a time.
