50/50 cust, ex makes more

Plenty of examples of Dads that work hard in Illinois, have 50/50 or a little less custody of their children, and have to pay a large set percentage of their net income to an ex-wife that makes many times more than them. There is no way that situations like that can be seen as fair and equitable.

And that is where I was almost at in Missouri; 50/50 with a decent job (but still underemployed caused by a manipulative relocation on her part prior to divorce) and having to pay a substantial amount of my monthly income to someone that makes nearly 1/4 million per year. Made no sense at all to me. However, the reverse in which she would have paid me made more sense. In the end, no child support changes hands.

Have noted the OP has not been back. But if he were to come back here is a suggestion; one that I have circled around in the discussion of this topic.

Since your ex doesn't want to give you child support and is threatening to attempt to take custody away from you if you seek child support look for something that would equal child support. Is your daughter going into a daycare situation? Pehaps ask her to cover that cost. How about extracurricuar stuff? Ask her to cover that cost. Now having stated this suggestion please be aware that your ex may assume that since she is paying the cost she would have full control over the daycare choice/extracurricular choice. This is something that you would have to deal with and work around as IMO neither parent has the "full control" of these situations. However, don't bring up the "control" issue until after the ink has dried on any signatures.

I say the first thing to do is evaluate the relationship you have with the ex. Probably not great but is it tolerable? Is money a big source of contention? Is the child well cared for under her care?

I thought about this thread today because I had a weekend landscaping job set up to make some extra cash. I had 4 guys set to show up to work all day for a couple of hundred dollars each. One didn't show. One showed up 2 hours late and left right after lunch.
