I'll stick my nose in a bit...
When we're talking about two consenting adults, all is fine and well. When we're multiple consenting adults... it starts to get a little fuzzier, and not for the moral reasons many would spout (I don't care about them, I only care about my morals, and not dictating them to others).
But when we've got one person, married to multiple people, causes a bigger strain on the social safety network. For standard bigamous families, with multiple kids with multiple wives, it is not uncommmon for welfare to be a part of the equation.
With gay marriage, not so much...
