hello folks. Been a while since I last posted. I realize today that this divorce will never be "final". Been to court so many times I have lost count. Can't believe how she has whittling away my time, and the VT courts justify their action in doing so. She is loaded, but wants my money to watch me suffer. I actually want my kids in my life, but she has kept them from me any way she can, and the courts let her. Can't wait until they both graduate Highschool and I can tell her to go < edited > herself in no uncertain terms....

Any way, that aside, new issue: State is asking for $500 +/- in back taxes from '09. I had a IRA withdraw I forgot to include, honest to god real mistake. the IRS caught it and I paid it last year. It was a joint return. The NJ is asking for copies of IRS correspondence, w2's for that year, and copies of tax returns as well as cancelled checks, etc. I don't see how she can ask for this, and I must comply. am I OK to just ignore her? I asked her to leave me alone about, it told her to pay the state bill since I paid the IRS bill. She keeps asking, I finally decided to ignore altogether. I don't have any tax filings, I threw them all away, foolish, but I wanted nothing that had anything to do with her in my life any more.

I could get her the w2, but see no reason to dod so. I don't have anything else that she wants.

Last thing, the final agreement, largely written by the NJ's attorney (which by the way I got suspended for unethical actions recently), states in legal jargon that each party is responsible for any taxes owed stemming from such things as this. I suppose that she could argue, and win, that it was from my IRA and that I am goign to have to pay it, but will that stand up in court? does the state care if there is a divorce decree? the bank sure as < edited > didnt care when i was looking for a loan and her auto loan with all of its 30+ days past due notices cause me to lose out on a home purchase.

Any advice? any one in VT want to get together and commiserate?

So, she'll shut up if you either a) pay the state bill or b) provide proof that you paid the IRS?

If so, fax Form 4506-T to the IRS requesting a Record of Account for the 2009 tax year, which will reflect the corrected entries for the 1040 and your payment of the additional balance due.
