New Smartphone?

I have had Android since the first G1 from HTC/Tmobile.

I have the following setup on my current android phone:

GoogleVoice for all voicemails-- your voicemails are converted into MP3s that are stored on your google account online, PLUS they do a quasi voice->text translation (I have over 300+ voicemails from my then PW, now PEW ranting raving, cusssing me out-- you name it---- all are time/date stamped, and easily transferred to a USB or DVD for use in court).

I use the built in voice recorder on the android phone to record all custody exchanges now, as my PEW has gone onto verbally attacking me at each exchange now.

I gave our son my old smartphone and loaded google latitude on it... I can see where he is on my phone (and he can see me if he looks) when he is not in my care. I installed a SMS backup program on his phone that backs up his SMS/txt messages to MY email gmail account.

I'm able to monitor who he sends/receives txt messages to/from. As a byproduct of this, my PEW found the google latitude on his phone and claimed I was tracking HER-- but explained it was simply for his safety, and that she was more than welcome to do the same thing-- so he can see both where I am, and where his mom is... But since I setup his acct and know the password, I can log onto his acct on my smartphone and track HER if need be... LOL. Never try to outsmart an IT professional. LOL.

So I got an Evo 3D, bailed Verizon, sick of them. I got a SMS tracker app, but I read somewhere that I need to turn GAL in my google account, from a computer or something, before it'll work? Is that just in the settings at gmail? I haven't looked yet, but maybe you guys know where to find it quick.

I am hoping i can use it as a voice recorder also, to record exchanges and stuff. Hoping this one device can do it all and save me some money in the long run...

I believe it's the IMAP function for gmail... Check the program, it'll tell you I use SMS Backup 1.1.1 by Christoph Studer, and it works the best. I even use it to backup my own SMS messages to my email (you create a folder name of your choice for it)... and it automatically backs everything up (200 messages @ a time).

I had the Studer backup app and it wasn't working. I figured I must have gotten something wrong with the IMAP thing in my google account, but I tried a different app and it works - SMS Backup+ by Jan Berkel.

I also got a voice recorder app that works pretty good. I have only tested it at home, not in an actual exchange yet, but it seems to work well and has good time/date labeling on the file names by default, and when the screen freezes it doesn't affect recording. I tried a few free apps but they weren't quite what I wanted (I had problems with recording when the screen went dark) and I ended up with Tape-a-Talk Pro for $5.

Oh and googlevoice is great. I gotta check into all the stuff I can do with it, it just saves my vmails right now, but you can get separate numbers that forward calls to your phone right? Would be cool to not give my real number out.
